Day 23 – Rejoice
Reading – Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9
Christmas is a time of paradox. The Christmas Story is told using words and phrases that should never be in the same sentence. Lord of all creation, born in a manger. God as a baby. Your King comes to you, righteous and victorious yet lowly and riding on a donkey. It’s all so unexpected yet exactly what we need to hear, we couldn’t save ourselves so God himself came to seek and to save the lost.
Today’s reading calls us to rejoice because our King has come. These words were fulfilled by Jesus as he rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday but first he had to be born as a baby. Let’s rejoice as we celebrate God’s great gift this Christmas.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices! O night divine, the night when Christ was born.
Challenge – Wish someone a Merry Christmas today. It could be someone in a shop, a friend/family member etc. Also have a listen to the song below.
Prayer – God, you are great and above all things. Yours is the name above all names. Yet you chose to become nothing, to be born as a baby to rescue me. I praise you for the Christmas story, for the love you lavish on me. Help me to never forget how much it cost for you to forgive me for my many sins. Amen.
