One Life. What’s It All About?

We all want to be part of something bigger than ourselves. We all want a cause to invest in, to feel like our lives have meaning and we are making a real difference. The question is not ‘will I give my life to a cause?’ instead the real question is ‘what cause am I giving myself to?’ and is it worthy of my attention and energy. There are lots of different things that we can live for, lots of good things like sport, family, job, money but none of these have eternal significance. They are all temporary – here today and, for all we know, gone tomorrow. Jesus said it far better than I ever could – what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? [Mark 8:38].

Do you feel the desire to be part of something bigger than yourself? If that’s you then allow me to point you to a cause unlike any other. When Jesus came to earth he announced the beginning of his ministry with these words – ‘The time has come…the Kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!’ [Mark 1: 15]. The Kingdom of God is the greatest cause you could ever imagine, God is at work in the world today drawing people to himself and he is calling us to join him. What can compare with a cause like this? What are you living for right now? What are you giving your time/money/energy to? If you are looking for a cause with eternal significance, for a lifetime of adventure and purpose then look no further……..repent and believe the good news! The time has come…..

Remember we only have one life, we only get one go at this. May God give us the courage to live for what really matters….

Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet,
And stand before His Judgement seat;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, the still small voice,
Gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding me selfish aims to leave,
And to God’s holy will to cleave;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, a few brief years,
Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with its duties I must fulfill,
living for self or in His will;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Give me Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or sorrow your word to keep;
Faithful and true what e’er the strife,
Pleasing you in my daily life;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Oh let my love with fervour burn,
And from the world now let me turn;
Living for you, and you alone,
Bringing you pleasure on your throne;
Only one life, “twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say,”Your will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say “twas worth it all”;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last. ”
